In the past decade, basic fashion has taken on a new meaning. No longer merely fast and banal, basic fashion is typically also organic, crafted, made-with-love, and ethical, all of which indicate an attitude, a lifestyle and a belief system. Australian label Bassike falls under such categories. As its name suggests, Bassike produces basics, or wardrobe staples in fabrics such as certified organic cotton jersey and denim, as well as mainline collections. Designed by Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan, the label’s garments place emphasis on a proper fit, with silhouettes that compliment one’s unique figure -- a trait that is arguably increasingly rare to find in today’s fast-fashion dominated world.
